"God’s Work. Our Hands" Sunday
On September 8, we will gather after the Sunday service to make sandwiches and pack “brown bag” lunches for the 67 residents of the Ascent Apartments in Buena Park. This permanent support housing for formerly homeless individuals aids the residents in their journey towards a new life. So please plan on staying after the service on September 8 to make sandwiches and pack lunches to be taken to our food insecure neighbors.
Mt. Calvary also has an ongoing ministry seeking donations of gift cards for our Good Samaritan Fund. Our Good Samaritan Fund needs a boost to replenish our supply of gift cards. Please consider donating gift cards. We are especially in need of supermarket and fast -food restaurant gift cards. Gift cards can be placed on the offering plate on Sunday or returned to the church office Monday-Friday, 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.
The Women’s Ministry is a group of women from our congregation who meet on the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 A.M. in the fellowship hall, to listen to inspirational messages, to pray together, and to plan activities and perform services which support the life of the church and our community. All women at Mt. Calvary are welcome to join us.
The Women’s Ministry is providing Care Kits for our neighbors in the community who are unhoused, unsheltered and food insecure. Each Care Kit contains facial tissue, wipes, hand sanitizer, granola bars, fruit snacks, trail mix, disposable trash bag, a pair of socks, a water bottle, and a Christian message of love, hope, and encouragement. These Care Kits are available to the congregation at no cost for pick up in the Narthex on Sunday mornings to distribute to individuals they meet in the community. These Care Kits, as well as meals for Judy’s Kitchen, are funded by a grant from the Pacifica Synod.
A Weekly Bible study is held every Wednesdayat 2pm in Pastor Carole’s office. Come and hear the Scripture readings for the upcoming week, read a short commentary and discuss! This is a wonderful small group ministry and is a great way to deepen your faith and relationship with the Holy One! If you would like to deepen your faith life and connect with our beloved community, this is a great place to do it. Come and spend time together sharing and studying the Word of God. All are welcomed; no previous Bible Study experience necessary!
Starting Sunday August 11th we will have a Bible Study/Christian Education class on Christian Nationalism – what it is, and how we as Lutheran Christians should respond. This class will meet for Sundays after service at 11:15 for four weeks and end on September 1st .
The Men’s Bible Study meets the 1st Saturday of each month at Howard’s Restaurant on Lincoln at 8:30 AM.
